Holiday Happenings in Waxhaw
Holiday Festival of Lights
Festivities kick off with the Holiday Festival of Lights on the first Saturday in December. Downtown Waxhaw is a true sight to behold with over 500,000 lights illuminating the historic buildings and landscape for the first night of the season. Musical performances, children's activities, Victorian singers stroll the streets and Santa visits on this night giving children a chance to sit on his knee and give him their wish list for Christmas Day.
GingerSnap 5K & Girls on the Run
Over 1500 runners take to the streets of Waxhaw during the GingerSnap 5K and Girls on the Run race on the first Saturday in December.
Senior Citizens Christmas Party
Waxhaw celebrates its senior citizens with a town-sponsored Senior Citizens Christmas Party held the first Friday in December. Many local restaurants show their appreciation of our seniors by donating a course for an old-fashioned, sit-down dinner complete with musical entertainment and presents.
Waxhaw Christmas Parade
The Waxhaw Christmas Parade which is held downtown on the second Sunday in December features our local school marching bands, and entries and floats by hundreds of businesses and members of the community. Announcers cover the entire parade route to make sure you hear all of the details surrounding the fun entries passing by.
In cooperation with the Ballantyne Jewish Center, a Menorah lighting ceremony, will be held during the Jewish Hanukkah celebration. The ceremony will take place by the Old Oak Tree bandstand on E. N. Main Street. Contact Rabbi Yisrael Levin at 704-737-0555 for more info.
Wreaths Across America
The Parkwood JROTC, along with the Town of Waxhaw, are proud to support Wreaths Across America and its mission to remember and honor fallen military veterans who have supported and defended our great nation. We invite you to be a part of this remembrance by joining us for a commemorative ceremony and the laying of wreaths on veterans’ gravesites on Saturday, December 16th at 12 noon.
Santa's Ride through the Neighborhoods
In a partnership with the North Pole, the Town of Waxhaw and the Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department have made arrangements for Santa to make an appearance in 31 Waxhaw neighborhoods the third week in December. Due to his hectic schedule, Santa will not stop in the neighborhoods but will drive by waving and wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas. Santa will begin his journey each night rain or shine. Santa's Ride schedule only includes neighborhoods within the official Waxhaw town limits. Merry Christmas from the Town of Waxhaw and the Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department!
