Aug 28th BOC Meeting Recap

On Tuesday August 28, 2018, the Waxhaw Board of Commissioners conducted both a work session and our regularly scheduled business meeting.

During the work session the, Town staff reviewed with the Board updates on numerous programs. Parks and Recreation provided an update on their planning for all of their programs for the year, with an emphasis on events. Our Financial Team shared the results of the modernization of our accounting practices and shared our 2017/18 results (unaudited). The work session concluded with our Police Department reviewing their past year – from community policing to a call volume that was over 32,000.

The Regular meeting began by recognizing the service anniversaries of 3 staff member of the police department: Stephanie Byrum Victor Montalvo and Michael Feige. The Board then participated in a discussion with staff Waxhaw’s Façade Improvement Program and approved zoning to permit the building of an office and medical building on Cuthbertson Road.

When Waxhaw is at its best it’s a Town that is working together and helping each other out – a Community. As we end August, this month has demonstrated some of the very best and positive influence of “Community and Team” :

  • The community policing vision that Waxhaw PD has been implementing has resulted in Waxhaw again this year being rated one of the top 10 safest cities in North Carolina
  • The community policing vision that resulted in 6 neighborhoods and hundreds of children and adults participating in National Night Out
  • A community led Town supported event – Back to School Bash – that reached over 700 children with numerous supplies for the school year.
  • A community led Town supported event that had over 4000 people lining the streets to support the journey of a young child as she deals with a devastating disease
  • A community organization committing their service and grant support to enhance the Town
  • And on Friday August 31, Waxhaw will receive its award as Great Main Street, prior to our Jammin at The Tracks event. This honor recognizes the history, the great mix of functions, the physical improvements, and overall vibrancy of our Downtown. This is the result of intentional, broad-based community efforts over the past several years.

Thank you to those that attended in person and to those that view via our Town YouTube Channel. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact

thank you!
