Mayor's Recap: February 26th BOC Work Session and Meeting

On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, the Waxhaw Board of Commissioners conducted both a work session and the regularly scheduled business meeting.

The work session opened with a brief discussion about the upcoming budget preparation cycle. From March through May a series of work sessions will be conducted to examine various aspects of the budget culminating in the Town Manager presenting a recommended budget for FY2020. The Board will seek and consider all input on the proposed budget, which must be adopted by the end of June.

The remainder of the work session was focused on the presentation of the Draft Parks and Recreation Strategic Master Plan. The plan represents over a year’s worth of collaborative work effort to identify current and future park and recreational needs. Over the next 2 months, this plan will go through a rigorous review process by the Board of Commissioners, the Parks, Cultural & Recreation Advisory Board and the public before final adoption by the Town.

The agenda for the regular meeting was short. The Board of Commissioners:

  • Approved a number of administrative items
  • Recognized Lowes Home Improvements Waxhaw with a certificate of appreciation for their partnership with the Town of Waxhaw on landscaping for Town Creek Park.
  • Received an update from the Main Street Advisory Board on a number of items. Three members from the Advisory Board, along with four of the Board of Commissioners, will receive continuing education and attend the Main Street Conference March 12-14.
  • Approved an amendment to the conditional use permit for Millbridge. The specific amendment allows for the opening of Tory Path Road to provide emergency access (Helms Road) on a timeline that meets anticipated development occupancy needs.

Thank you to those that attended in person and to those that view via our Town YouTube Channel. If you have any additional questions about our recent meetings please contact communications@waxhaw.com.
