Introducing New Planning Director, Jeffrey Wells

Prior to joining the Town of Waxhaw staff, Wells served as the Town Manager for the Town of Mills River in North Carolina. He brings to the role 20 years of experience in municipal planning and zoning. Wells will be moving to Waxhaw with his wife, Rebecca, and their children, Zane and Courtney. He says the whole family is “greatly looking forward to relocating to the area.”

Jeffrey Wells “I knew within the first few minutes of driving around on my interview day that Waxhaw is a great community with a great professional opportunity,” Wells said of his experience in Waxhaw so far. “I am excited to meet the staff and learn about the town’s planning process. I look forward to listening about the planning issues that are important to the community.”

Likewise, Waxhaw staff is looking forward to working with Wells. “He has a very even-keeled personality that will translate well to citizens and staff as a front-facing position,” Human Resources Director Wendy Davenport said. She cited his North Carolina government experience and love of planning as reasons Wells rose to the top of the candidate pool.

Jeffrey Wells begins his new role as Planning Director for the town on April 29th, and he will be formally introduced to the community at the Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, May 7th.

The Town of Waxhaw is located south of Charlotte, North Carolina in Union County. The town has grown tremendously over the last decade to become a popular hub of restaurants, retail, and community events. The town was incorporated in 1889 and will celebrate its 130thanniversary in March 2019.
