Construction Updates

Last week, the crew moved to NC75 and S Providence St. New sidewalk and curb and gutter was added, as well as a new ADA accessible ramp along S Providence St. Today and tomorrow, the crew will complete the final concrete work and streetlight installation. They will begin to check items off the final punch list, as we prepare for the grand opening on Friday, August 4.

How was this project funded?

These Downtown Pedestrian Improvements were funded by a grant from the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO), the federally designated transportation planning agency for the Charlotte metro area. CRTPO is responsible for the allocation of federal transportation funds.

The Town of Waxhaw applied for a grant under the CRTPO's Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) in 2016, providing a local match of 50%. The local match funds used came in part from the town's Small Transportation Project Fund, $25 per vehicle registered in the Town of Waxhaw.

Because of the project's location, the town had to work with CSX and NCDOT on approval. Due to the pandemic's affect on NCDOT funding and a lengthy CSX approval process, the project was delayed until now.
